Meet Tara
Hi, I’m Tara Rose Laborico, a para educator, creator, and hands-on problem solver based in Portland, Oregon. My path hasn’t been a straight line; it’s more like a map of detours that all led somewhere useful. I produced award-winning high school TV news at Parkrose High, studied photography at The Art Institute of Portland, and trained in the kitchen at Western Culinary Institute. Today I support students in East Portland schools and build tech projects on the side as an indie developer. Whatever I’m doing, my approach stays the same: show up, learn fast, and do it right.
The Journey So Far
I’ve spent more than 15 years caring for people. I started as a residential care provider for teens and adults with disabilities, then became a Program Director overseeing three homes, training staff, and writing behavior support plans. Since 2015 I’ve been a full-time caregiver and special education parent advocate, sitting at the IEP table from elementary school through graduation. Along the way I kept a perfect 5.0-star rating across thousands of rides. In 2026 I joined ESS as a para educator, and I’m heading back to school for a degree in behavioral health, with special education next.
Authenticity & Inclusivity
Being openly transgender shapes how I see the world and how I show up for others. Living as my true self took courage, and it taught me that the most powerful thing you can do is bring your whole self. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I work to make every classroom, ride, and project a safe, welcoming space for people of every gender identity and orientation. When people feel seen and respected, they thrive, and that’s true for students most of all.
Life Beyond the Work
Outside of work I’m a parent of four, a lifelong space nerd, and a tinkerer at heart. You’ll find me writing code, building my own self-hosted AI projects, 3D printing, gaming, cooking for my family, or taking a road trip with no real destination. I value connection, freedom, and real experiences over perfection. This site is where I share what I’m building, where I’ve been, and where I’m going next.
